The event trends for 2018

The end of the year is in sight. We look forward to the next year with great excitement. Especially in the event department! A lot of beautiful things are about to happen. Have a read, there may be something there for you too!

At Loyals we have already done a few tests and we are excited! RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) is easy to apply and is already known to the general public, because it is used in the 'debit card'. In addition to the applicability to public events, we see opportunities at company events. Mainly concerning live data collection. For example, we once combined an access card with an RFID chip, which allowed guests to vote at various booths.

2. VR + AR = mixed reality

VR already made it on to the list last year, but this year we certainly see opportunities for AR (augmented reality) and even a real mix. The Microsoft Hololens really seems to finally be breaking through with so-called mixed reality. Apple isn’t far behind: the iPhone X also has AR functions. As a result, there are more and more AR apps. It may not get past the demo stage this year, but it’s certainly one to keep an eye on! Especially for trade fairs.

3. Gamification

This seems to be another online trend finding its way to going live, but that’s not entirely true! Gamification can be applied online and offline. It can be as old-fashioned as a board game. Combining it is even more fun. It’s clear that gamification is hot from the number of escape rooms. They pop up everywhere! I firmly believe that people, young and old, like games. Deep inside, people remain big children. Try to use it to convey your message or to load your brand. 

4. Concept and program become more important

Due to the enormous, constant influx of information online, our attention span is getting shorter and shorter. Not fascinated for a few minutes (for millennials even a few seconds) and we automatically reach for our mobile. Bye bye (live) attention! So, make sure you have a strong event concept to get the attention. Once the guests arrive, a well-balanced program can make or break your event. With surprise or game elements you keep the attention of your guests. And build in parts where the visitor picks up their mobile to share the event via social.

5. Events and online become best friends

The above trends say it all. Events are increasingly going towards online. Not only during the event, but also before and after the event. You can also get more out of your event (budget) online. You grab the attention with the event and hold on to it afterwards online. This way, people pay attention to your message for longer and your budget lasts longer. Let’s go 2018!
