Online Marketing

Your website can have different purposes: taking care of requests, contacting you, purchasing products or services.... Ultimately, a website has to help you achieve your goals.

A good site starts with the basics: technology and content that the search engines value highly. It doesn't stop here. Subsequently, the website needs to be maintained regularly. This ensures that the site remains fast, cannot be hacked and remains interesting for visitors - and for Google. Finally, you always have to respond to the internet surfing behavior of the visitor.

It's not an 'in-between job'.

Let's be honest. Maintaining a website is not an 'in-between job'. It takes knowledge and time. Knowledge to technically update and improve the site based on statistics and time to provide it with new content on a regular basis. This content can be anything: a blog, a news item or a new product, whatever suits you. As long as the content is relevant and unique, well written and of course optimized for search engines.

Tips for maintaining the website yourself

A current and relevant website scores higher in Google and is the basis for more conversions. Regular maintenance of the website is essential. If you do this yourself, please pay attention to the following tips:

Tip 1: Always carry out the desired technical updates

There are regular (technical) updates. These updates help to ensure a website that is as smooth and user-friendly as possible. Always make sure that you carry out technical updates or have them carried out. This will keep your website up to date at all times.

Tip 2: add new, relevant and optimized content

A page must be at least 800 words long to score well. A higher number of words is SEO-technically even better. Make sure you update, modify or optimize your content at least once a month. Make sure that the content you write remains relevant.

Tip 3: measuring is knowing

Keep an eye on the statistics of your website and improve it if necessary, for more results. Is your Bounce rate higher than 60%? Is your average time on the site less than 1 minute?  Try to improve this by means of content optimization or by performing experiments.

Is the conversion rate and the number of conversions very low? Then it is possible that your content does not match your target group. It's time to rewrite the content!

Tip 4: avoid thin content

Thin Content is when the content of a page has no value for the visitor.

Thin content lacks quality and does not solve the problem for the reader. In most cases it is not important for the search intent of the user, or what the user initially brought to the page in question.

Do you want to know if you have thin content on your website? You do this by doing an audit on your website. For example, use Screaming Frog to run a scan on your website. With this scan you will find all pages of your website and the number of words per page. Does the scan say that you have many pages with less than 400 words? Then it's time to rewrite and optimize these pages.

Tip 5: avoid duplicated content

Duplicated Content is content that is displayed in more than one place on the Internet. This "one place" is defined as a web page with a unique URL, i.e.: when the same content appears on more than one page.

Although this is technically not a ranking factor, duplicate content can affect the rankings of search engines. Duplicated content gives negative signals to the search engines. This can cause the overall quality of your website to be low.

Make it Google easy: when double content appears on the internet, it can be difficult for search engines to decide which version is more relevant for a certain search query.

Professional website maintenance

A website can give you great results and is essential in the current digital era. But it takes effort. Don't you have the time or the knowledge to maintain your website? Then hire a professional. A party that knows what updates are needed, can quickly optimize your site and can provide good content.
